ProQuest and Nlyte Software To Deliver Data Center Infrastructure Management Keynote at VMware User Group

Presentation highlights how ProQuest simplified management of its data center assets and virtualized resources with Nlyte’s Integration to VMware vCenter Server

MENLO PARK, Calif., June 7, 2010 – nlyte Software, the leading provider of performance-based solutions for Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM), will join ProQuest at the Western Pennsylvania VMware User Group to deliver the keynote presentation “Simplifying the Management of Data Center and Virtualized Resources.”  The event will be held June 8 at the Robert Morris University, in Moon Township, PA.

The presentation and product demonstration, featuring Cory Phillips, nlyte Software, VP and GM of Americas Operations and Derek Vanden Bosch, ProQuest, Senior Systems Engineer, will show how the nlyte data center performance management solution:

  • Automatically discovers and monitors VMware Virtual Machines, Hosts and Guests.
  • Reduces the MTTR by quickly determining the rack location of the physical server the VMware VM is running on.
  • Provides the ability to report on the relationships between both physical and virtual resources and the business groups within an organization.

ProQuest Case Study Highlights nlyte Advantages

The keynote will include a case study detailing how ProQuest used nlyte to manage its virtual environment in the same way they it manages its data center assets and physical infrastructure.  In particular, ProQuest will share how they leveraged nlyte’s integration to VMware vCenter Server to manage a move to a remote data center environment 500 miles away from its data operations center. Without having personnel walk the data center floor, ProQuest was able to:

  • Map out connections, applications and owners;
  • Conduct an impact analysis that they were previously unable to perform; and
  • Report on what was accomplished and any error that occurred.

“We were fully aware that setting up our new remote data center would be a complex and sensitive procedure,” said ProQuest’s Vanden Bosch.  “The data center support practices that we had in use within our existing site would not work over the distance of 500 meters, which was unusable to support us in the move. This is what led us to the nlyte solution – we found it was the best product to ensure we fully understood the impact of every decision or change within the new site in order to support a successful implementation.”

Today’s hybrid data center environment, which combines physical and virtual assets, is highly complex and difficult to manage.  The nlyte Integrator allows data center managers a single view across an entire data center infrastructure to see all physical and virtual servers and machines, saving time and simplifying management.

“More than ever, our customers need intelligent capacity planning to understand all connectivity, capacities and dependencies within the data center, whether they are physical or virtual, data center management.  This is where our solutions thrive and reduce the challenges common to complex operations.” said nlyte’s Phillips “Most importantly, they can ensure organizations make business decisions and investments based on accurate data and analysis.”
