Green Governance

Nlyte Software Green Governance

Nlyte Software is committed to helping our customers reach their goals for reducing energy consumption in the data center, achieving a smaller carbon footprint and establishing sustainable IT initiatives.  As a company that develops software solutions for managing a more efficient and effective data center, it makes sense to establish a set of corporate policies for establishing an environmentally aware culture inside of Nlyte Software.  These “Green” policies reflect our commitment to reducing greenhouse emissions, shrinking our corporate carbon footprint, and creating a healthier environment to work, live and learn.

Facilities
In California, commercial buildings use nearly 35 percent of the State’s electricity and account for a large percentage of greenhouse gas emissions, raw materials use and waste.  Nlyte Software has taken aggressive steps to reduce it’s impact on California’s fragile power grid, by closing its Del Mar office and consolidating west coast operations in a highly efficient, LEED Silver certified, Corporate Headquarters in Menlo Park, CA.

Our offices in London are fitted with low energy motion censored lighting and Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) cooling systems that are configured to maximum energy savings. The offices in Stamford, CT have also taken action to reduce electricity consumption in their facilities by turning off idle equipment, replacing light bulbs with energy-efficient varieties and adjusting thermostats to the recommended settings for office environments, (68 Degrees).

We have recognized the toxic and environment effects of many of the discarded items in today’s offices and have adopted a number of wide-spread recycling programs with bins to collect paper, plastic, aluminum cans, batteries, used electronics, and printer toner and ink cartridges.  All proceeds from the collection of this office waste are donated to local charities that address environmental issues.

Environmentally Preferred Purchasing (EPP)
When Nlyte Software purchases products and services for corporate use, we chose products and services that have a reduced impact on human health and the environment as compared to other goods and services serving the same purpose.

All Nlyte Software corporate purchases will take into consideration, to the extent feasible, raw materials acquisition, production, manufacturing, packaging, distribution, reuse, operation, maintenance, disposal, energy efficiency, product performance, durability, safety, the needs of the purchaser, and cost in the purchasing decision.  Nlyte Software will strive to chose the “greener” product and service when more than one option is available and will always endeavor to incorporate new guidelines outlined by government and environmental groups.

Working Green
Every employee of Nlyte Software is encouraged to find ways to save energy and reduce their impact on global climate change.  Many of our employees work remotely (TeleWork) to help reduce air pollution, traffic and parking congestion, and demand for office space.  Others car pool, ride public transportation or use low emission, alternative fuels and vehicles to commute back and forth to work.

Other green work initiatives implemented by Nlyte Software this year include:

  • 40% increase in remote software installations of Nlyte
  • 25% annual reduction in air travel company-wide
  • 10% annual reduction in paper usage company-wide
  • 5% annual reduction in non-recycled waste company-wide
  • Green ambassadors have been appointed within each office to identify environmental process improvements and increase awareness

Conclusion
Like the nlyte Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) process cycle, Green Governance is a systematic life-cycle designed to help organizations drive towards lower energy usage and over-all sustainability.  nlyte Software is committed to continuously improving our processes and initiatives while we strive for great reductions in our corporate carbon footprint.
