Background The Green Grid is a global consortium of IT companies and professionals seeking to provide industry-wide recommendations on best practices, metrics and technologies that will improve overall data center and business computing energy efficiencies. The Green Grid is working on getting more companies on board with not only monitoring how their data center performs but putting in good practices and giving them tools to increase their efficiency and cut carbon emissionsResearch has shown that only half of the typical data center's energy use is for computing; the remainder is for infrastructure requirements, including heating, cooling, and lighting, where savings can make significant and direct contributions to the bottom line. Without sacrificing computing power, companies can reduce electric power consumption, save money, and contribute to a greener environment.
