May 16, 2012 – nlyte Software, the data centre infrastructure management (DCIM) solution provider, founded by data centre professionals for data centre professionals, today announced that Ticketmaster, the worldwide leader in online ticket purchasing , has selected the nlyte DCIM suite to help it actively manage utilisation of power, space and cooling across its entire European data centre estate. Ticketmaster now has complete insight and control over its data centre environments. Its clients – including elements of the London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG), GET ME IN! – now have access to tailored reports, giving them visibility into their data centre capacity utilisation so they can support Ticketmaster‟s drive to a „greener‟, more efficient ticketing process.
A Live Nation Entertainment company, Ticketmaster is distinctive in the ticketing software market, as it provides ticketing systems in addition to acting as both a ticket retailer and event promoter. The scale of these operations gives Ticketmaster the opportunity to identify and benefit from cutting edge technology which can enhance both the client and fan experience; this includes improvements within its data centres. Ticketmaster hosts many of its clients‟ ticketing systems within its own data centre facilities, and prides itself on delivering the most innovative technology to create an easy to manage and reliable data centre environment.
Ticketmaster needed a solution to better manage power usage within its data centres, without putting it at risk of power outage. After comparing several vendors, Ticketmaster trialled and selected nlyte Software‟s DCIM suite to model, manage and visualise all assets within its European data centres, located in London and Amsterdam. The granular detail delivered by the nlyte suite gives Ticketmaster the ability to track individual servers, dependencies and usage inside the data centre. Ticketmaster can now monitor power usage across the data centre estate and charge its clients for the amount they use. As a result, the heaviest users are now paying their fair share of electricity costs.
The nlyte Analytics Dashboard module and its tailored reports keep all Ticketmaster personnel, from management executives to the data centre engineers, informed about power and infrastructure usage. This has enabled senior management to proactively change the IT procurement process, taking into account both the cost of buying IT equipment and also its on-going operational costs. In addition, the ability to audit data centre assets according to energy effectiveness is helping Ticketmaster to identify the most inefficient equipment and prioritise it for replacement with newer and greener models. The company estimates that a new data centre contract, negotiated as a result of this information, could save it up to £500K.
“The ease of use and simplicity of the nlyte DCIM suite means tracking the continually changing assets inside our data centres is no longer a headache, as the entire data centre infrastructure is now being mapped and managed using a single version of the truth,” said Terry Arnold, European data centre manager, Ticketmaster. “The unprecedented control the nlyte DCIM suite delivers, to both Ticketmaster and its customers, is a great benefit financially and environmentally. With its intelligent DCIM technology, the nlyte Suite enables us to understand every element of our data centre environment from energy use by client down to individual asset efficiency. We now operate in the most cost effective and environmentally friendly manner, while also delivering quality services to our clients.”
“With a large number of very high profile brands relying on Ticketmaster to manage its ticket sales and promote events, it is vital that its data centres are always reliable and working optimally, particularly in times of peak demand when „must-have‟ tickets go on sale,” said Rob Neave, co-founder and VP of IT sustainability at nlyte Software. “Using the nlyte DCIM suite, Ticketmaster is now able to monitor and control each of its individual customers‟ data centre assets, helping to ensure service reliability, even during the busiest of periods. In addition, by tracking power consumption on a per user basis, Ticketmaster‟s clients are much more aware of the costs of their data centre services and are joining the drive to reduce energy usage”.
